Entrepreneur Education

Why Entrepreneur Education?
                                     What is Social Entrepreneurship?

Social entrepreneurship is embedded in Hawaiian beliefs. Individuals had a kuleana to the ‘āina and their community to embrace issues and needs with creativity and innovation to ensure success of an ahupua‘a.

Ho‘amana Values with Entrepreneurial Mindset

Hawaiians have been practicing “social entrepreneurship” for generations.

Social entrepreneurship is embedded within Hawaiian values and moral responsibility, generally known today as kuleana. Kuleana can be defined as responsibility. Kuleana was an important obligation to ensure the productivity and success of an Ahupua’a. If an issue did occur, Hawaiians used creativity for their neighbors and for the land to find innovations that benefited the community.

Entrepreneurship isn’t just about starting companies; it is a set of skills and a way of thinking, or mindset. Check out the image on the right for entrepreneurial mindsets from a Hawaiian lens.

Entrepreneurial Mindset in Mo‘olelo

In mo’olelo, we find examples of entrepreneurial ways of thinking and behaving. Mo’olelo of the past and present day are valuable guides that teach and connect us.
